CA2 presents a collection of almost sixty contemporary international projects, each an important contributor to 'early twenty-first-century style'. Projects include the latest in corporate office design, introducing new concepts such as 'hot desking', the importance of natural ventilation and natural light, the frugal use of energy, and an emphasis on 'human scale' in massive office projects.
Catherine Slessor's introduction to CA2 focuses on the role of some of the leaders in world architecture, and looks at how the previously avant-garde is becoming increasingly mainstream. She also discusses the enormous potential for architecture in China, led somewhat by the preparations for the Beijing Olympics in 2008, but predominantly by the buoyant economy and growing cultural sophistication. She delves into the role that sporting and cultural events play in generating new architecture, and how the demands of global ecology are radically altering the thinking of today's architects.
