Mind the Country: Tim Winton's Fiction (william bee) - Softcover

Inhaltsangabe

Tim Winton, born in 1960, has published a series of novels and books of short stories and criticism that have made him the best-loved Australian literary writer of the late twentieth century.
Mind the Country is the first book-length critical study of this prolific, internationally acclaimed writer. It explores themes that have become a valued part of Australian readers' personal experience: the traditional versus the modern, the isolated versus the integrated, the local versus the global, and the spiritual versus the expedient.
Dr. Ben-Messahel shows how Winton's themes are most forcefully expressed through his vivid characters and stories, and how these stories interact with and comment on each other. Through his love of his homeland, Western Australia - its landscapes, seascapes, and cities - Winton presents a theatre of the mind, creating scenarios of danger and solitude, self-discovery and creativity.
