About the AuthorAnna Ramos has dedicated her career to improving outcomes for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).She began her career as a secondary school SEN teacher, spending over ten years working directly with young people with a wide range of additional needs. She later became a mainstream Secondary SENCO, where she led SEND provision, supported staff to develop inclusive practice and worked closely with families and external professionals to ensure pupils received the support they needed to succeed.Building on her school leadership experience, Annie moved into a Local Authority SEND Case Officer role, working with schools, parents and multi-agency professionals to coordinate Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments (EHCNAs) and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). This experience has given her a unique understanding of SEND from both the school and Local Authority perspective.Throughout her career, Annie has remained passionate about making SEND guidance practical and accessible. She believes that effective inclusion is built on strong relationships, high expectations and simple, evidence-informed strategies that busy school staff can implement with confidence.A SENCO's Guide to the White Paper Reforms - Secondary Schools Edition was written to be the practical handbook she wished she had when she first stepped into the role. Rather than focusing solely on legislation, this book aims to bridge the gap between policy and practice, offering realistic advice, practical examples and honest reflections drawn from real-life experience.Anna's mission is simple: to help every SENCO feel more confident, every teacher feel more supported and, most importantly, to improve the educational experiences and life chances of children and young people with SEND.
