A Glimpse of Iran by Mazdak Z. is a deeply personal and evocative memoir that paints the portrait of a family living through the shifting tides of Iran’s modern history. Told with tenderness, humour, and honesty, it bridges the intimate and the political, showing how the echoes of revolution, faith, and love shape not just nations but generations.

Through vivid storytelling, Mazdak retraces the journey of his parents, Karim and Lily, whose lives spanned from royal Iran’s modernisation to the storms of political upheaval. Karim’s transformation from a devout officer to a disillusioned patriot imprisoned for his beliefs mirrors the nation’s search for truth and freedom. Lily’s strength and devotion embody the quiet endurance of Iranian women, standing firm through loss and change.

From the early days of childhood in Tehran to moments of exile, discovery, and nostalgia, Mazdak captures what it meant to grow up amid both chaos and beauty. The narrative unfolds across decades, from the Second World War to the White Revolution and beyond, lacing personal memory with national identity.

This book is not a political commentary but a heartfelt reflection on belonging, family, and the human spirit’s ability to endure. Written with warmth and emotional depth, it invites readers into the heart of an Iranian home filled with laughter, faith, contradictions, and love.

A Glimpse of Iran reminds us that behind every historical event lies a collection of ordinary lives, each carrying its own small revolutions.
