Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Gerald Davies CBE is one of the acknowledged greats of Welsh rugby, playing for the side between 1966 and 1978. Born in Llansaint, Carmarthenshire, under the local coal miners scholarship scheme he studied at Loughborough University, before studying at Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge and appearing for the University rugby team. Davies played club rugby for Cardiff RFC and London Welsh before he became the captain of Cardiff for three seasons in the 1970s, Davies toured with the British Lions in 1968 and 1971. After retiring as a player, Davies became a journalist, writing on rugby matters forThe Times. He became chairman of the Wales Youth Agency, and his commitment to youth work earned him a CBE in 2002. Davies holds Honorary Fellowships from the University of Wales, Lampeter and Aberystwyth, as well as from Cardiff University and Loughborough University for services to sport and journalism. Gareth Williams has written and broadcast extensively on the sporting and musical history of South Wales. His books include the prize-winningFields of Praise (with Dai Smith ), 1905 and All That, George Ewart Evans,Heart and Soul - the character of Welsh Rugby and More Heart and Soul (co-edited with Huw Richards and Peter Stead),Valleys of Song: music and society in Wales 1840-1914, and Sport, an anthology of Welsh sports writing. His most recent book isWales and its Boxers - the fighting tradition (edited with Peter Stead). He is a member of the Pendyrus Male Choir and was until recently Professor of History and Director of the Centre for Modern and Contemporary Wales at the University of Glamorgan.
