Wealthy, philandering surgeon Tony Stamford seems to have the world at his feet until an embarrassing email from a recent conquest, Katya, proves the final straw for his long-suffering wife. But is she as long-suffering as she seems, and who really is Katya? As Stamford’s life begins to unravel he finds himself lost in a world of mirrors, no longer certain who he can trust and doubting the value of his very existence. Stripped of everything he once owned, he embarks on a battle for his freedom and even sanity which can only end in death. Sharply satirical and disturbingly dark, Malpractice takes a scalpel to the vanities of the medical profession and, in doing so lays bare the deceits and cruelties to which desperate people will stoop. ‘A no-holds-barred, pull-out-all-the stops, breathless tangle of a thriller full of dark comedy…A heck of a good read’ Amazon.com ‘An outstanding comic novel…Tony Stamford, philandering surgeon, is a masterpiece of grotesque invention’ Bookbrowse.com ‘Darkly comic, beautifully paced, the novel is crammed with an almost Dickensian sense of atmosphere and turbulence, yet blessed with the deftness of Waugh. Full of great moments, it also succeeds in being momentous’ Goodreads.com ‘Brilliantly entertaining and consistently outrageous, Adlam’s brand of salacious humour spills out a tidal wave of manic delight’ Metro Tony Stamford, unrepentant cad, set to be one of the most enduring characters in British fiction…snobbish philandering surgeon, serial fornicator and craven lecher, a shameless rogue whose reputation is thoroughly whittled away by his long suffering wife’ Amazon.com

I am a 55-year-old British author and I have written four novels and a collection of short stories. The Rent Man is a down-the-line hard hitting thriller about an ex-special forces man, Charlie Llewellyn who comes to Swansea in Wales in pursuit of the international criminal behind The Rent Man gang, a drugs and male prostitution vice ring. Although it is contemporary and British, sharp eyed readers might spot that it is modelled on the classic spaghetti western High Plains Drifter: a stranger drifts into a community in the grip of a lawless gang and turns out to be more ruthless and violent than them, though ultimately in the cause of justice. I am just about to start Out of Practice the third and final book in the Stamford trilogy. By now he has carved his way through the Middle Eastern political chaos as a phony Médecins Sans Frontières surgeon after his release from prison thanks to crimes dating back to Malpractice. Got it? Don’t worry, it’s all explained in the books. By the way, ten per cent of all proceeds from the Stamford trilogy are being donated to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Charity to thank them for saving my life. This will go directly into their liver research unit whose work on diseases like cancer and hepatitis makes it a world leader in the field.
