In the Shadow of Crows is the inspirational and moving account of David and Bindra - two very different lives brought together. David was brought up speaking 'kitchen Urdu', due to his family's heritage in the Punjab during the Raj. His childhood is consumed by a fantasy life in India, a country in which he has never stepped. Not until he finds himself lost and without direction due to tragic events is he driven to rediscover his non-British roots. His journey across the Subcontinent dispels the naivety of his childhood imagination, whilst inspiring him to change his life. Running parallel to David's story is that of the widow Bindra, ravaged by leprosy and driven from her home due to the prejudice and ignorance of others. As she undertakes a seemingly impossible journey in search of understanding and peace, she loses all that has maintained her strength and sanity. Eventually, after their paths have crossed many times, they are brought together and their lives are transformed.
