Art Workers Guild 125 Years: Craftspeople at Work Today - Softcover

Behind the black door in a quiet Bloomsbury Square, the Art Workers Guild has guarded its secrets. Since the time of William Morris, whose portrait bust has pride of place in the meeting hall, the body of members has spanned generations and more artistic activities than that of any comparable organization. Lara Platman turns he lens to the art workers in their workplaces. The words and pictures show 130 of the many outstanding designers and makers at work in Britain, recording lives of dedicated commitment practical wisdom and enjoyment of the unexpected.

Lara Platman is a London-Based Photographer and Journalist whose clients include English Heritage, The National Trust, BBC and numerous theatre and dance companies and festivals. Lara has exhibited both in solo and group shows in the UK and internationally beginning at New British Photographers at the Royal Photographic Society in 1991, and her photographs were part of the UK Design for Performance exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in 2008. Since 2007 Lara has been Curator for displays at Tower 42 in central London, on behalf of Art Workers Guild. Her work is in the collection of the Australian National Library.
