Fishing and Folk combines dialect vocabulary and literature as a way of explaining the North Sea coast and its social development is something of an experiment - a history-by-vocabulary possibly unique to this title. This book brings together a subject as challenging as the coast itself, with its scenery, weather, wildlife, boats and fishing operations, salmon-tickling, smuggling, communities and people.

ALL UK PARCELS SENT TRACKED! ALL OVERSEAS PARCELS SENT AIRMAIL, TRACKED! (New, Paperback, 2008). 2008 1st edition. Paperback. Ppxiv,266. B/w photographs, bibliography. Fine. This is an interesting look at inshore fishing in the Northeast and its language. The book principally deals with the last days days of sail, although it does begin with the earliest sources for each subject. Lots on cobles and a lesser amount on 'keelboats'. The vocabularies given make no effort to distinguish between standard and widely known terms and those of purely local provenance. No drawings or lines plans are given, and much of the discussion of practical matters is oddly sketchy. Interesting if youare familiar with fishing, boatbuilding and sailing, and cobles as a class of vessel, already, but less illuminating if you aren't. . Artikel-Nr. 25469
