Despite being seriously wounded in the Battle of France, Paul Richey began a tour of operations in 1941 as a flight commander in 609 Squadron. This is the story not only of 609 Squadron's war during the summer of 1941, but also of Richey's exploits until the end of the war at Fighter Command HQ.

No one knew Richey had begun a sequel, but was unable to finish it. Norman Franks, with access to Richey's personal papers and diaries, completed the book about. 609 Squadron's offensive war over Northern France and Richey's exploits to the end of the war.
