In Along Some American Highways British photographer Andrew Cross encounters a new reality of the American roadside: the gas stations, shopping malls, drive-thru businesses and distribution centres that cluster near highway intersections. These spaces have replaced a more traditional urban landscape throughout the entire United States. In his photographs Cross avoids the nostalgic and suggests a new way of looking at this all-American architectural phenomenon.
