Tal der Könige, John Romer erstes Buch ursprünglich im Jahr 1981 veröffentlicht wurde, erzählt zwei faszinierende Geschichten. Die erste ist, über die Gräber der alten ägyptischen Könige, Königinnen und Adligen, die mit Pomp und Extravaganz zwischen 1570 und 1085 vor Christus begraben wurden. Die zweite, ebenso überzeugend, ist die Geschichte der Archäologen und ihre Jagd nach der Vergangenheit.
