Robert D. Ballard is a former United States Navy officer and a professor of oceanography at the University of Rhode Island who is most noted for his work in maritime archaeology. He discovered the sunkenTitanic and Bismarck ships and is the author of many books about his discoveries, includingThe Discovery of the Titanic, Finding the Titanic, and Graveyards of the Pacific. He lives in Mystic, Connecticut.
