Run of the Town Stories of an unfettered youth - Softcover

Inhaltsangabe

Your mother lets you out to watch two lumberjacks in a vicious fistfight. "Just stay back", she warns. You have Run of the Town. This is Hearst, Northern Ontario and environs, mid20th century. Author West has evoked with first-hand loving care the raw, individualist, sensual, subarctic bush town persona by offering up 17 stories separate but simultaneously bound by a thin but unbreakable thread. A fine achievement!" BRIAN DOYLE, 2005 winner of the prestigious NSK Neustadt International prize, from World Literature Today, University of Oklahoma for Children's Literature "Stories that are "rampant with memory" ....sensitive, thoughtful, funny, sometimes sad, but always honest: reading them creates a movie in the mind" PAT HOLLOWAY, Faculty of Education, University of Ottawa. "A pure delight. Set at the end of WWII, these snapshots of our Canadian past weave history and bittersweet but heartwarming memories into timeless accounts that will be treasured by youth and adults alike. A wonderful addition to Canadian literature, illuminating our collective past in a sensitive and relevant way." SUSAN ANNE NOUVET, Principal, Ottawa
