In 1985, the Alberta College of Art + Design (ACAD) initiated its Ceramics Visiting Artist program. Each academic year, through a competitive and rigorous hiring process, an artist/teacher has joined the ceramics faculty, bringing his or her vital and fresh voice directly into the classroom. With a designated studio space in the Ceramics department, each artist has pursued his or her personal research and practice within the milieu of ACAD’s teaching spaces and studios. Working alongside students, these individuals serve as exemplary role models of accessible, active and engaged mentors as they develop new bodies of work. This beautifully illustrated book explores the influence of the Ceramics Visiting Artist program as it passes its thirty-year milestone. The publication includes a variety of voices from multiple perspectives and is divided into three sections comprising essays of a historical and theoretical nature, personal reminiscences and biographical information on each Visiting Artist.
