The great Zen teacher Dogen compared life to the act of rowing a boat. We are all in our own boats, being carried by the current of the river. But we do not control the river. We do not know where the river will take us. Our task is to simply paddle the boat and meet whatever comes, and to realize that we are all in the same river, being strengthened by not knowing what will happen next.
