Inhaltsangabe

Grant Reynolds' didn't expect his first day on the job to start off with a bang, but it did - several no less.
Two young people - one the granddaughter of an American billionaire, the other the son of a Bolivian diplomat - are found shot to death in a Parisian alley. Grant's new job as the field representative for the American Embassy's Legal Office in Paris has him investigating crimes against Americans. He expected his job to deal mainly with lost passports, college student drug possessions, stolen cars, and the general complaints of wronged and worried tourists. But this double homicide pitches Grant head first into a complex crime of the most diplomatic and professionally menacing nature. Not only is he facing down the long arm of bureaucracy, but also the long barrel of a professional hit man's gun.
While visiting the crime scene, Grant is chilled to see the pattern of his former criminal obsession at work, the work of a man simply known as "The Assassin." During his days working in Boston as a homicide detective, Grant had come across this international killer's methodical handiwork and become fully educated on the tidiness of the murderer's work.
Despite making a positive first impression with Detective Gerard, who's been assigned to oversee this case, Grant is left to feel thwarted at every turn from diplomatic hand slapping, reminders that his rank has zero clout. But being the resourceful man that Grant is, he manages to work the system, much to the chagrin of his supervisor and much to the pleasure of his attractive coworker, Jill St. Claire.
While trying to piece together the connection between the young victims and their rich, influential families, Grant discovers some very expensive and exclusive art dealings that seem a bit suspect. As Grant nears the heart of the mystery, he remarks to a superior that, "Some pretty important people worldwide will be doing some cheek clenching before this is over," and he is right. But will Grant still have a pulse left in his body to finally uncover the players?
