"Paul Schneider: The Buchenwald Apostle: A Christian Martyr in Nazi Germany: A Sourcebook on the German Church Struggle" Paul Schneider was the first Protestant clergyman murdered by the Nazis. The German Church struggle against National Socialist tyranny is dramatically depicted in the ministry of Pastor Schneider. The book contains many sources never before published in the English language.

The author teaches history at West Chester University in West Chester, Pennsylvania. He was a Fulbright Grantee at the University of Freiburg. He also studied at Basel University and at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena. Professor Foster holds degrees from Eastern University, the University of Delaware, the Reformed Episcopal Seminary, the Crozer Theological Seminary and the University of Pennsylvania.
He is co-translator with Mildred Van Sice of "Prisoner 20 801: A French National in the Nazi Labor Camps," by Aimé Bonifas, West Chester University Press, 1987. He is an editor and the translator for "In Answer: Twenty-one Essays on the Holocaust," Sylvan Press, 1988. In 1991, the Oxford University Press published Professor Foster’s translation of Gerhard Brendler’s German language edition: "Martin Luther: Theology and Revolution." In 1995, the West Chester University Press published the author's biography of Pastor Paul Schneider: "Paul Schneider: The Buchenwald Apostle: A Christian Martyr in Nazi Germany: A Sourcebook on the German Church Struggle." In March 2001, this biography was published in an abridged German language edition: "Paul Schneider: Der Prediger von Buchenwald: Eine Lebensgeschichte," by the Haenssler Verlag in Holzgerlingen, Germany. In 1999, in conjunction with the Magdeburg concert pianist, Pia-Monika Nittke, and the Magdeburg prize-winning photographer, Elizabeth Heinemann, the author published a volume of his poetry, "Poetic Allegories," in the West Chester University Press. In addition, the author has written numerous articles for American and German journals.
