Yasunari Kawabata is the author of numerous novels, including Snow Country and Thousand Cranes. Kawabata was the first Japanese writer to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature (1968) and was the teacher and mentor of Yukio Mishima. He died in 1972.Language Notes:
