GEORGE SINGLETON’s stories have appeared in New Stories from the South—The Year’s Best (1994, 1998, 1999), Playboy, the North American Review, the Southern Review, New England Review, the Georgia Review, Shenandoah, Carolina Quarterly, and elsewhere.

STEPHEN DIXON is one of the most prolific short-story writers in the country and is very widely published. His most recent novel is called 30 and was published by Henry Holt. Dixon teaches in the Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins University.

BRUCE JACOBSON lives in Manhattan with his wife and works at one of New York’s finest ad agencies. His work has also appeared in the Minnesota Review. Jacobson’s first novel, Jennifer Theory, is forthcoming.

JUDITH McCLAIN teaches fiction writing and literature at Rhode Island School of Design. Her stories have appeared in KQ/AR, Iowa Woman, and American Short Fiction. She won the 1997 Heekin Award for nonfiction and the 1999 Rhode Island State Council on the Arts Award in literature.

SIOBHAN DOWD of International PEN's Writers-in-Prison Committee in London writes this article regularly, alerting readers to the plight of writers around the world.

LEE MARTIN is the author of a collection of stories, The Least You Need to Know, which won the Mary McCarthy Prize for Short Fiction. His memoir, From Our House, is just out from Dutton.

RON CARLSON has written three short-story collections (The Hotel Eden, Plan B for the Middle Class, and The News of the World) which have won numerous awards. His novels are Truants and Betrayed, his fiction has appeared in dozens of literary journals and anthologies, and he is a frequent contributor to the New York Times Book Review and the Los Angeles Times Book Review. He is a Professor of English at Arizona State University.

SUSAN McINNIS produced and hosted Conversations with Susan McInnis for KUAC-FM and TV in Fairbanks, Alaska, 1988-1995. Her interviews with authors from the Conversations series have appeared in Glimmer Train Stories and the Writer’s Chronicle.

JESSICA TREADWAY’s collection, Absent without Leave and Other Stories, won the John C. Zacharis First Book Award in 1993. Her novel, And Give You Peace, will be published soon by Graywolf Press. She is an assistant professor of creative writing and literature at Emerson College in Boston.

RON EGATZ, poet, is widely published in journals and reviews. He is the winner of the 27th Annual Greenburgh Poetry Award, and was recently nominated for inclusion in the 25th annual Pushcart anthology.

LESLIE JOHNSON’s fiction has been broadcast on National Public Radio and in many journals including Threepenny Review, Carolina Quarterly, Third Coast, Talking River Review, and Puerto Del Sol. She works as a writer-in-residence for Connecticut’s Commission on the Arts.

NATHAN LONG is the fiction editor for the journal RFD. He currently teaches English and creative writing at Virginia Union University, while revising his novel, Different Finland.
