David L. Downing, PsyD, received his doctorate in clinical psychology in 1985 from the Wright State University School of Professional Psychology. He is a member of the earliest generation of professionals to receive the then-revolutionary PsyD degree. He is presently director of Graduate Programs in Psychology and a full professor in the School of Psychological Sciences, University of Indianapolis, where he teaches a variety of subjects, including psychoanalytical theories and psychotherapy. He is also presently dean of the Center for Psychoanalytic Study in Chicago, from which he graduated in 1994, president of Section V (Psychologist-Psychoanalyst Clinicians) of the American Psychological Association Division 39, and serves on the board of the journal Psychoanalytic Psychology.
