What is actually measured when a student is given an intelligence test? Is an I.Q. score truly a measure of a child's intelligence? This text exposes the misconceptions surrounding the determination of intelligence. The author begins by providing background on the development of intelligence measures and how they have led to the deficit-base perspective when describing student's abilities. Dr Miller proposes a new approach to understanding what we call smart, which is sensitive to culture, age, gender, education, and economic circumstances.
