This book presents a general approach to understanding everyday behaviour and communication. It suggests that we need only be "good enough" and that we can learn to like ourselves. The ideas in the book are based on the view that there are some relatively simple but constructive ideas about understanding and, if necessary, changing behaviour that can be used in everyday living. The content is based on some of the ideas to be found in the theory of transactional analysis. Transactional analysis explains how and why our personalities develop as they do, how we communicate with varying degrees of effectiveness, how we behave in a variety of ways in order to get our needs met and develop the beliefs we hold.
