About the book >.>.> Rachel Goodyear: Modifications of the Host, authored by Clare Lilley and Adrianne Neil, explores the intricate interplay between humans and animals in a vast, ethereal landscape. This book presents a collection of Rachel Goodyear?s captivating works, which inhabit a white, infinite world that balances familiarity and strangeness. The themes of isolation and alienation are vividly illustrated as her figures exist in dreamlike states, distanced from society?a reflection of the hinterland of the mind.Goodyear's work draws heavily on her attentive engagement with the natural world and her observations of the behaviours that connect and divide species. The publication showcases recent pieces developed during her residency at Banff National Park in Canada in 2010, particularly the series titled Forest, along with sketches from her artist journal. Her experiences at Yorkshire Sculpture Park have also greatly informed her artistic practice, which encompasses drawings on paper and gesso plinths, as well as animations and, for the first time, small ceramic sculptures. This body of work signifies an expansion of Goodyear?s artistic exploration, introducing new dimensions of movement, sound, and mass that elevate her drawings. These elements contribute to an installation where figures inhabit a common yet dislocated space, enhancing the sense of alienation initially present in the white paper. The collaboration with Manchester Metropolitan University has further enriched her practice, showcasing the potential for innovation in art through shared resources. This text serves not only as a documentation of her creative journey but also as an invitation to contemplate the complex relationships we share with both nature and ourselves. Artikel-Nr.
