The sandstones are the second most used aquifer type in Britain, but as a fracture fluvial and aeolian red-bed sequence, they also represent an aquifer type that is common internationally. Some of the 18 papers are from a 2003 meeting in London of the Environmental and Industrial Geophysics Group and Hydrogeological Group of the Geological Society of London; others were solicited by editors or submitted by contributors.
