SEX IN AMERICA: AN ANTHOLOGY OF WOMEN’S LOVE POETRY Part of the Pagan American Series Edited by Jeremy Mark Robinson A book of contemporary love poetry from North America and Canada, by women. Some of the poems in this anthology are erotic, some romantic, some wistful, others melancholy. Many poets have developed a unique style to express their feelings about love. This is the fourth collection of poetry from North America and Canada. Some poets are published here for the time, some are young (16), some give poetry readings, and others are published in magazines and books around the world. This book continues to feature passionate and often spiritual poetry from the U.S.A., like its companion volumes, Pagan America: An Anthology of New American Poetry, and Love in America: An Anthology of Women’s Love Poetry. There are some powerful poems here, not all directly to do with eroticism or sexuality. The poems of ‘Moi-Meme Ombre’, as she likes to be known, are direct sexual poems. Here we find the language of pornography (‘pumping’, ‘beating’, ‘sucking’). Paula Sheil’s poem ‘Leaving Work to Make Love’, like the poems of Stacey Butters, is similarly direct in its evocation of an erotic moment. Two longer pieces, Donna Kaye Beech’s ‘Thursday’s Children’ and Jennifer Busch’s ‘Under’ depict sexual encounters in detail. In Beech’s ‘Thursday’s Children’, a woman plays sexual games with a man and a block of ice. In Busch’s ‘Under’, a relationship is rapidly deteriorating. The man makes love to the The Pagan America Series includes volumes of new love poetry by women poets, entitled Love in America, Sex in America and Erotic America. Other titles are: Pagan America, Mythic America, Sacred America and Magical America. Includes notes on contributors. www.crmoon.com
