The original Range Rover, launched in 1970 caused a sensation and, gradually, created an entirely new category of motor vehicle - the capable 4x4 off-roader. But by the early 1990s the original Range Rover was showing its age and designers and engineers began work on its replacement. This new Range Rover, launched in 1994, was powered by the same Rover V8 as its predecessor, but little else remained the same. It took over as the world's best luxury 4x4 and sold in large numbers throughout the world.
