This volume explores the nature of soul pain and healing in those close to death. Drawing on his extensive experience of the care of the mortally ill, Michael Kearney shares and reflects on the stories of a number of individuals. He presents a theory and technique of inner care based on mythological and psychological models, believing that such care is the essential complement to the physical or outer care of the patient. It can, he believes, "enable the person to find his or her own way through the prison of soul pain to a place of greater wholeness, a new depth of living and a falling away of fear." The book should be of interest to professionals and voluntary workers, working in medicine, nursing, social work, pastoral care and counselling.
