This volume includes the findings which resulted from the Internationalses Zentralinstitut fuer das Jugend-und bildungsfernsehen (IZI) held in April 1996. A selection of edcuational programmes produced by European television stations that had been accepted by a larger audience as being "interesting" or "instructive" were presented. Issues of the acceptance and uses of such programmes were discussed in the light of the latest results of programmes and audience research. Research experts were asked to focus on the following aspects: viewers' attitudes towards television and their expectations of it as a medium for education and learning; programme interests and preferences that go beyond entertainment, sport or news programmes; image and acceptance of educational programmes; and types of viewers and users, differences in information processing and learning styles, and their influence on television-viewing behaviour.
