Effective 6 April 2013. This edition has been updated to amalgamate Approved Document N: Glazing and also some overlapping guidance that is in Approved Document M: Access to and use of buildings. As well as these changes, Approved Document K’s references have been updated in the light of the harmonised standard related to ‘safe breaking’ and the testing methods, and the harmonised standard and National Annex related to resistance of loads for barriers. Tables and diagrams have been amended and simplified, key terms have been updated and there is now an index. There are no new technical requirements. This Approved Document has a fresh new look and has been totally re-designed into a single column format to make reading. It has also been subject to a thorough editorial review to make the text/content more reader-friendly and simpler to assimilate and understand.
