Aimed at architects, contractors, engineers and specialists in the field, this book uses real-world evidence from a Technology Strategy Board-funded research project to develop a set of tools for architects and other building designers to meet a growing need to anticipate future climate change. Built on in his seminal future climate change report for the TSB, Bill Gething (with Katie Puckett) identifies three broad categories of climate change impacts on building design – comfort and energy performance, construction, and managing water.
Bill Gething is an independent sustainability and architectural consultant, having been a long-standing partner of Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, with whom he retains close ties. He is visiting professor at the University of Bath, a member of BRE Global's Governing Body and a CABE Built Environment Expert . He was the sustainability adviser to the president of the RIBA from 2003 - 2009, and a member of its Climate Change Board, responsible for developing the Institute's suite of Climate Change Guides. He produced the Green Overlay to the RIBA Outline Plan of Work in 2011 and is chairing a pan-industry workgroup for the Zero Carbon Hub focused on narrowing the performance gap of new housing. Katie Puckett is a freelance journalist with more than ten years' experience of writing and editing for a range of business titles. As a former features editor on Building magazine, she specialises in construction, architecture and property, but also writes regularly on sustainability, insurance and IT. Katie has worked successfully with both the Technology Strategy Board and Bill Gething before, making her an ideal co-author for this project.
