This book records the inscriptions from carved stone artifacts, ranging from simple gravestones to ornate monuments. It provides examples of early Irish, including the only non-ogham script of the period. Attention is paid to the physical aspects of the monuments and their locations. Entries are grouped by county. An introductory essay discusses the scope of the study, its relation to previous research, the typology of the monuments, and the epigraphy and language of the texts.
