Initially she is sceptical about his faith, but is eventually 'won over' by Martin's sheer love for God. Their friendship blossoms and we follow the twists and turns of the treatment as Martin fights for his life and the twists and turns of Rebekah's understanding as she gropes for spiritual light. I won't spoil the ending for you!!! The book is based on the personal experience of the author who needed a similar operation. It is accurate medically (for fans of E.R.) but more importantly shows how befriending people does not rest on setting pre-conditions.
