Inhaltsangabe
The works brought together in Selected Poems range from Herbert Lomas' first collection, Chimpanzees Are Blameless (1969), right up until his most recent collection, Trouble (1992). His poems are urbane, sophisticated and unafraid. They deal with old histories, inner disturbances, crises, love and the failure of love. They play with a deliberate lightness of touch, blending satire with minute observation, radical perspectives and an unconventional mysticism. Stan Smith has written: 'There is so much going on linguistically in these poems. In the speed of delivery it is easy to miss the legerdemain.'
