The contrast between these two works is great. McIniscon's work is a furious denunciation of Malthus whereas Senior offers a more measured and scholarly critique. McIniscon's book was partly guilty like other of his time of misunderstanding and misrepresenting Malthusian principles. Senior's work contains correspondence with Malthus which offers an insight into Malthus's opinions and illustrates that despite the two men never reaching an agreement they remained on friendly terms.
