THESE notes have been written for use in church study and discussion groups. They could prove to be useful in ecumenical groups where the members come from a variety of churches - or even from no church at all. The aim is to encourage exploration and debate about issues which go right to the heart of Christian belief and practice. Some of the questions raised are controversial: but controversy can be creative in itself. The brief introduction to each of the twenty-two topics is followed by a number of points for discussion. The author lectures with Birkbeck College, University of London, and previously for twenty-five years, lectured in religious Studies at (the now) Anglia Polytechnic University in Essex. The Revd Hubert Smith, an examiner for the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate, is a URC ordained minister, was National Study Secretary for the Student Christian Movement in Schools, author of The Really Practical Guide to Primary R.E., and a contributor to numerous publications.
