Guidance Note 1: Selection & Erection contains clear guidance on how to apply the relevant sections of BS 7671. A fundamental guide for specifiers, installers and those testing installations, the expected updates in Amendment 3 greatly impact on day-to-day tasks.

Amendment 3 publishes on 5 January 2015 and comes into effect on 1 July 2015. All new installations from this point must comply with Amendment 3 to BS 7671:2008.

Please note, sections previously in Guidance Note 1 on Outdoor Lighting and ELV Lighting can now be found in Guidance Note 7 (5th Edition).

The main expected changes to BS 7671 that impact on Guidance Note 1 include information on:

• Consumer units (to come into effect January 2016);
• Wiring in escape routes;
• Changes to earth fault loop impedances for all protective devices;
• Changes to definitions throughout the Regulations
