Reseña del editor:
For decades scientists have been striving to reach an alternate existence at Coldbrook, a facility deep beneath the Appalachians. In 2011 it finally happens, and a new reality is breached … The new world they find is very different from our own; under a red sky there are only ruins to indicate a civilization ever existed. The first person to stumble through the breach is sick, and when he bites the infection quickly spreads. The contagion is voracious, unstoppable, and terrifying. Official reaction is confused and ineffective, and the plague expands across the United States in a matter of hours, the rest of the world within days. Millions flee before it, millions more succumb. The scientists from Coldbrook guilt-ridden for unleashing the catastrophe search in vain for a cure in the ruined world beyond the breach. Here, where survivors of the decades-old epidemic huddle in underground shelters, there might be hope. But time is running out. The plague is spreading. In our world the afflicted rage on; hard to kill, they possess only one aim spreading the disease. And as the Coldbrook survivors battle their own inner demons in their search for a solution, a terrifying truth emerges: They are being watched.
