Lucy Kirkwood&;s first play Tinderbox premiered at the Bush Theatre, London, in 2008. In the same year she provided material for the Bush&;s 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover and Hedda, a reworking of Ibsen&;s Hedda Gabler, for the Gate Theatre. She is currently writer in residence for Clean Break and a new play, The Shoreditch Spinsters, directed by Matthew Warchus is planned to open in the West End next year.
