Practical work is an essential feature of secondary science education. However, questions have been raised by some science educators about its effectiveness as a teaching and learning strategy. Ian Abrahams is a Lecturer in Science Education at the University of York, UK, where he is Tutor on the Secondary Science PGCE and leads the MA in Science Education programme in the Department of Educational Studies.
