A very attractive, beguiling but eccentric book, it s a classic coffee table work that is still a very interesting and informative read. Most unusual. Beautifully produced in the usual Conway Maritime manner, the book benefits from a well-educated and cultured author/editor. It also includes the work of some of the world s best marine photographers. Essentially, following an introduction describing the history of marine photography, it comprises a large number of photographic vignettes of marine celebrities , both contemporary and historic. Obviously, the selection of such a long list of celebrities could be the subject of considerable argument. There is no doubt that some will be long forgotten in a decade or two. They are also, probably, rather too north Atlantic centric. Nevertheless, they are mostly interesting and that, surely, is the point.
