This book examines the international instruments that deal with the human rights of women and, in addition, the specifically African experience in trying to implement them. Some topics discussed include female genital mutilation, human rights of women in armed conflict, refugee women, and women and Islam. The editors aim to better equip human rights workers, teachers, lawyers, civil servants, community leaders, students, and academics, preparing them to address cases of inequality, and contribute to women's empowerment by making more effective use of existing international standards.
