ROGER PROTZ is the chairman and founding member of the British Guild of Beer Writers. He is the only man to have had two spells as the editor of CAMRA's Good Beer Guide. In addition to the Glenfiddich Award as Drinks Writer of the Year in 1997, Mr Protz has been recognized by both British and North American Guilds of Beer Writers, winning many Gold (1994 and 1997), Silver and Bronze Tankards/Awards. Described by Time Out simply as, "The King of Beer Writers", he has also received Belgium's Chevalier Confrerie les Sossons d'Orvaulx. Among numerous books he has written are The Good Beer Guide and Good Pubs Guide, both published by Carlton Books. He lives in St Albans.
