Inhaltsangabe

More than 80 years on, the First World War continues to fascinate. This volume, with a new foreword by Professor Hew Strachan, covers the fighting in all theatres of the war, detailing Russia's humiliation at Tannenberg: great battles such as the Somme, Verdun and Ypres; and memorable campaigns and battles in Palestine and Italy. The lives of soldiers and civilians caught up in the struggle are explored through first hand accounts, offering a moving and very personal insight into the horrors of war. Combining Essential Histories 13, 14, 22 and 23, this great value special edition explores the causes, events and effects of the First World War.
