'Miranda loves the beach but it's sad having no one to play with. She draws a picture of a girl in the sand and, magically, the Sand Sister comes to life. They play all day, fall out and make up - yet time is running out: when the tide comes in, the Sand Sister will have to leave. Miranda is desolate, but her parents comfort her with some good news: a real sister (or brother) is on the way. The sadness and joy that weave in and out of this story are reflected in wonderful illustrations, alive with warmth and colour' - Mail on Sunday --Mail on Sunday. 'Little Miranda desperately wants a sister, so when her parents take her to the beach she draws one in the sand and wills it to life. The magical Old Daddy Rock grants her wish, but when the sun goes down 'Sandy' must return to the ocean. Gulp. Luckily, Miranda's folks have some good news and tell her she won't be alone for much longer. Gold-bathed, sultry pictures and a lovely tale' - Venue --Venue. 'Miranda's parents have taken her to the most beautiful beach she has ever seen, but there's one thing wrong - she has no brothers or sisters to play with. That is, until Old Daddy Rock spreads a little magic and creates a 'sand sister' especially for her - but only until the sun goes down. The two sisters are obliviously happy as they play together all day, until an argument erupts and they storm off in opposite directions. Luckily, Miranda shows strength of character and apologises to Sandy just in time for them to say their goodbyes before she disappears as quickly as she appeared that morning. But instead of leaving Miranda forlorn, the tale remains upbeat when Miranda rejoins her parents who have some news for her...she really is going to be a big sister after all. The warmth of the story is echoed beautifully by Yuyi Morales's acrylic paintings. The natural palette and visible texture of the paintings give the elements of the beach depth and substance' - Junior --Junior

Reseña del editor:
When Miranda wants a sister to play with at the beach, she draws a girl in the sand and wishes with all her might. To her surprise, Old Daddy Rock gives her "Sandy", a sister to play with until the tide comes in. They have lots of fun, but at the end of the day, Miranda must say goodbye.
