The global popularity of association football is an undeniable fact. The game generates interest for many and profits for a few in almost every corner of the world. However, reference to the success of the global game is frequently closely accompanied by warnings of crisis - administrative, financial, technological and moral. This new collection of essays examines both the positive and negative aspects of 'the bountiful game'. The first section of the book concentrates on matters relating to the unfolding relationship between sport and identity formation, the second on football finance and organization. These essays will appeal to anyone who is concerned with the condition of the people's game during the first decade of the twenty-first century.
