This is a wonderful mix-and-match book for first-time knitters, packed full of funky ideas. The book is divided into two halves: the first 10 projects are easily knitted accessories with clear and simple patterns: legwarmers, bags, belts and ponchos; the last half of the book is crammed with easy-to-sew embellishments - from groovy striped balls and pom-poms, to crochet flowers, fringes and covered buttons. Projects are written step-by-step and in with clear photographs, avoiding the language problems that put off so many first timers. Both sections of the book include comprehensive introductions to the craft, including basic tools and stitches, and a guide on to how to get started and how to finish-off projects neatly. The aim of the book is to inspire first time knitters and to encourage and inspire self-design accessories. Once the project has been knitted, it is up to the reader to embellish the design, with any number of combinations: from ponchos with crochet flowers, to a bag decorated with and pom-poms and cables, or a loopy scarf complete with felt flowers and striped balls.

Wendy Freeman graduated last year and has recently set up her own business producing quirky and unusual knitted designs and accessories. She mixes new styles with aspects of the old, always in the brightest colours and styles.
