Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, a student of ukiyo-e master Utagawa Kuniyoshi, showed a predilection towards two types of subject in his early work: exceptionally bloody musha-e (â oewarror printsâ ), and supernatural images of demons and ghosts. Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839-1892) was a leading Japanese artist. He is widely recognized as the last great master of Ukiyo-e, a type of Japanese woodblock printing. He is additionally regarded as one of the form's greatest innovators. His career spanned two eras â " the last years of feudal Japan, and the first years of modern Japan following the Meiji Restoration.
