The book is divided into four main sections: 'The Basics' outlines what every budding fuchsia-grower needs to knows, beginning with an introduction to the sheer diversity of fuchsias: detailed information on the species of fuchsias and on hardy, standard and hybrid fuchsias follows, together with advice on the best type of fuchsias for different planting schemes. Taking and raising cuttings and potting-up fuchsias are also covered. The section ends with a detailed colour guide, showing exactly what species of fuchsia should be used to achieve different colour schemes. The next section presents 15 projects featuring fuchsias, from planting a basket of fuchsias to using fuchsias in mixed hanging baskets. Each project is shown over at least one double-page spread; the reader is shown exactly what to do at each stage, in clear step-by-step photos. The third section - 'Help!' - offers concise, quick-reference advice on what to do when things go wrong, along with basic maintenance advice. The final section is a comprehensive Variety guide; here, all the major plants featured in the projects are shown in individual colour photos; the accompanying text entries summarise all the vital information, from soil-type preferences to the flowering season.

Carol Gubler has been a member of the British Fuchsias Society Committee since 1985. She lectures on fuchsias, judges shows and most importantly, still grows fuchsias for fun!
