The Greek Code of Private Maritime Law, the first English-language translation of Greek Law 5020/2023, which radically overhauled the Greek Code of Private Maritime Law, was painstakingly translated and edited over the course of 2023.
The purpose of this publication is to clarify the Greek legal system for international investors, entrepreneurs and legal practitioners in the shipping industry, providing them with a thoroughly research translation of the entire text of the law rather than piecemeal Articles or the gist and main points. Über die Autorinnen und Autoren
Daniel Webber, BA (Hons.), is a translation practitioner who has been offering his services to a diverse clientele including law firms, notaries public, companies and language service providers in Greece, the UK and other countries since 2001. With a wide range of translating interests, including the translation of several books in various fields such as medicine and classical studies, he has been devoting his energies to specialising in legal translation since 2011 through rigorous study and research.
John O'Shea, LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M., is the founder of JurTrans (www.jurtrans.com), a translation firm specialising in legal and financial texts that enjoys the trust of countless clients such as law firms, accounting companies, auditing firms, notaries public, international investors and language service providers in Greece, Cyprus, the UK and other countries. Dr. Iliana Christodoulou-Varotsi is a Senior Legal Consultant & Shipping Industry Trainer with international experience as a consultant, law drafter, author, and educator. Member of the Athens Bar Association since 1995. Law drafting experience with the Republic of Cyprus. Sub-contractor of the European Commission and EMSA in specialised projects pertaining to maritime and EU law. Designing and delivery of training workshops to maritime professionals worldwide through Lloyd's Maritime Academy (Informa Connect) and DNV Maritime Academy Hellas. Visiting lecturer at ALBA Graduate Business School American College of Greece. Honorary Visiting Fellow, Institute of Maritime Law, University of Southampton. Author of five books with international publishers. 'Maîtrise' (Law), 'D.E.A.' (EU Law), and 'Doctorat' (Leventis Foundation grant) with the highest distinction awarded by the Faculty of Laws of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne. Post-doctoral research experience, Scandinavian Institute of Maritime Law (Propondis Foundation grant). In her approach, Dr. Christodoulou-Varotsi integrates industry best practice while placing the focus on the human element.
